Allen's Fried Chicken - how it all began

From a well-established catering background in Lancashire, England, in the 1950’s and 60’s, Ray Allen, met with Colonel Harland Sanders in 1963, securing the famous American fast food rights, for the Colonel’s Secret Recipe fried chicken for the U.K, Australia and New Zealand.

Ray opened the first Kentucky Fried Chicken store in Fishergate, Preston, England, in 1964 – still successfully trading today.

Popularising the new take-away food concept, Ray expanded the Kentucky Fried Chicken brand, until by the mid 1970’s some 250 Kentucky Fried Chicken Company and Franchised stores, throughout the U.K. were successfully operating with the image of Colonel Harland Sanders and a name firmly established as a premier fast food chain.

In recognition of his hard work and dedication to Kentucky Fried Chicken, Ray Allen was made a Colonel of the State of Kentucky, by the then Governor of Kentucky, Edward T Breathill.

Following in his Fathers footsteps, Tim Allen joined the Kentucky Fried Chicken Family in 1976, working in California, USA, for Pete Harman, the first Franchisee of Colonel Sanders.

Having gained valuable first hand experience of the business, working in stores in the “Bay Area” of San Francisco, Tim returned to the UK, managing KFC stores in London, England, before returning to his roots, to operate and expand a chain of successful KFC stores in Manchester in the North of England.

In the early 1990’s, both Tim and Ray Allen, believing the UK market would appreciate a “Home Grown” original fried chicken, embarked on launching Allen’s Fried Chicken, to the British public.

Now Allen’s, with three generations, and over forty years experience in the chicken business, brings you their very own “Secret Recipe” fried chicken for you to enjoy – wherever you see the Allen’s Wishbone!
